Out There - Monday, April 7, 2008 Miriam: I miss my roommates! I hardly ever see you guys! / Sherry: You see us everyday, hon. / Miriam: Yeah, but it’s not quality time! We’re working, or eating, or passing each other on the way to the bathroom. / Miriam: And I never see you at the same time. I feel like a third wheel, because you guys see each other more than either of you see me. / Sherry: Yes, and every moment away from you is spent in a passionate embrace. / Miriam: Is not. I check your bedroom daily for signs of amorous activities. / Sherry: Ewww!!! Why would you DO such a thing?! / Miriam: I don’t. But I LOVE a good ewww.
Out There - Tuesday, April 8, 2008 Sherry: C'mon, Mir, you know John and I are just friends, not that it’s any of your business. / Miriam: I know it’s not. And I’m all for you guys doing whatever makes you happy. I just wish I could hang out with you once in awhile. / Sherry: Actually, Mir, this is kind of your fault. You were the one who pushed for me to have the bar open every day from 6 am to 2 am. / Sherry: And I’m glad you did that. But yeah, it definitely reduces our opportunities to spend time together outside of the bar. / Sherry: But fear not, sweetie, we think of you often when we’re out having fun and you’re slaving away. / John: Sometimes we even refer to you by name.
Out There - Wednesday, April 9, 2008 Miriam: We should try to figure out a way to go on a double date. Even though you two are allegedly not dating. / Miriam: Wouldn’t it be fun to go to Oceanic City or some place? / Sherry: How would we do that? Who’d work at the bar? / Miriam: I dunno, couldn’t we just say we were closed for remodeling? Just for a weekend? Or maybe for two slow nights in the middle of the week? / Sherry: Wouldn’t Chuck have a tough time getting days off in the middle of the week? / Miriam: I could write him a note. “Must have time off to entertain hot girlfriend.” / Sherry: I could see where that would garner him a lot of sympathy. / John: Particularly at the unemployment office.
Out There - Thursday, April 10, 2008 Sherry: This isn't the best time of year to go to Oceanic City, Mir. Most people go during the summer. / Miriam: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Look, if you don't want to spend time with me, just say so. You don't have to make up excuses. / Miriam: Wow, I didn't even know I could DO that. I guess I picked that up from my mom. / John: You should NEVER use that recklessly.
Out There - Friday, April 11, 2008 Sherry: All right, Mir, maybe we’ll do this Oceanic City trip. But let’s plan it out. None of this let’s-leave-tomorrow nonsense. / Sherry: Are you even interested in this, John? / John: I’m not all that interested in the destination, but I’ll go. / Sherry: Maybe Oceanic City isn’t the best idea. Maybe there’s some place we’d all like to go. / Miriam: Why Sherry, I didn’t know you became so malleable when you’re “not dating.” / Sherry: I'm NOT malleable, and we're NOT dating, Miriam! / Miriam: And you DIDN’T purposely just spill orange juice in my lap. / Sherry: Obviously not. It would have been coffee if I did it on purpose.

Out There - Saturday, April 12, 2008 Sherry: I always feel like I should apologize to you for Miriam’s goofball behavior. / Sherry: But that’s silly, considering you knew her before you knew me. You were probably used to it before you even got here. / John: Not to mention the fact that her behavior isn’t your responsibility anyway. / Sherry: No, it isn’t. / Miriam: Here. You have once again inspired my latest behavioral anomaly. Wear them with my compliments. / John: What exactly IS that? / Sherry: If I’m not mistaken, it’s a pair of my underpants, soaked in orange juice and coffee.
Out There - Monday, April 14, 2008 Stranger: Hey, you’re not Sherry! / Miriam: You’re right. But you don’t have to sound so disappointed. / Stranger: Oh, heh, sorry. You just took me by surprise. I haven’t seen anyone other than Sherry behind that bar for quite awhile. / Stranger: Uh, she’s still here, right? / Miriam: Yeah, she’s my boss. She cracks the whip and I say “Yes, ma’am.” / Stranger: Cool, I hope I’m around to see that sometime. / Miriam: Actually, I meant it more figuratively than literally. / Stranger: Yeah, I know. I recognize banter when I— / Miriam:—Because she doesn’t even own a whip. We think a riding crop is more ladylike.
Out There - Tuesday, April 15, 2008 Steven: I’m Steven. / Miriam: Hi, Steven, I’m Miriam. / Steven: Whoa! THE Miriam? Sherry’s best friend? I’ve heard about YOU! / Miriam: Oh, hee hee. All good, I hope. / Miriam: What? / Steven: Are you doing anything tonight? / Miriam: Yeah, working, and then putting duct tape over Sherry’s mouth.
Out There - Wednesday, April 16, 2008 Steven: I assure you, Miriam, Sherry never spoke a bad word about you in my presence. / Miriam: Nevertheless, I should probably inform you that whatever she did say about me probably doesn’t apply anymore. I’ve changed a lot. / Steven: Hey, that’s cool. Anyway, I’m pleased to meet you, no matter how little you resemble the person Sherry used to talk about. / Steven: I’ve changed a bit too since I last saw Sherry, so whatever she said about me may not be relevant anymore either. / Miriam: I’ve never heard of you. / Steven: Cool! Off the hook, then!
Out There - Thursday, April 17, 2008 Miriam: Okay, lemme think… maybe Sherry did tell me about you… Steven, huh? / Steven: Yeah. / Miriam: Is that Steven with a “PH” or with a “V”? / Steven: A “V,” as in “flying V”. / Miriam: What does that mean? / Steven: It’s a guitar. / Miriam: You’re a musician, huh? / Steven: Yeah. Now do you remember? / Miriam: Maybe you didn’t make as big an impression on Sherry as you think you did. / Steven: Maybe your memory is gappier than you think it is.

Out There - Friday, April 18, 2008 Steven: Maybe I’ll just head on upstairs and say hi. Do you know if she’s home? / Miriam: I think she might be out with John. / Steven: Is that her boyfriend? / Miriam: You tell me. / Steven: I guess she doesn’t share as much information with you as I would have thought. / Miriam: No, not so much any more. / Steven: Strange, because she sure shared a lot of information ABOUT you. / Miriam: I guess if I were anybody but me, I'd be annoyed by that.
Out There - Saturday, April 19, 2008 Steven: Don’t be too hard on Sher. She really missed you, that’s why she talked about you so much. / Steven: She must have been ecstatic when you finally moved out here. / Miriam: I guess so. When I’m not complicating her life, she appreciates me. / Steven: I’m sure the story of how you complicate her life is a fascinating one. / Miriam: You’ll have to ask Sherry. Unlike her, I respect my friends’ privacy. / Steven: Damn, I shouldn’t have said anything. Now I’ve probably started a fight between you two. / Miriam: Yep, I’ll be breaking out the whip tonight. / Steven: I thought you said you didn’t own a whip. / Miriam: I said SHE didn’t own a whip.
Out There - Monday, April 21, 2008 Sherry: Hey, Rock Star! Good to see you! / Steven: Here she is, the Queen of the Tap! / Sherry: Were you on tour this whole time? / Steven: On tour, recording, and busy with other things... / Sherry: Uh huh. How many of these “other things” are giggly, starstruck innocents whose parents may kill you someday? / Steven: No comment. / Sherry: Mir, I take it you’ve met Steven? / Miriam: Yeah, how come you never told me about him? / Sherry: I'm sure I did... We dated for about six months. / Miriam: It's possible I was a teensy self-absorbed during that time.
Out There - Tuesday, April 22, 2008 [[ Miriam is standing behind the bar, while Steven and Sherry are sitting in front of it ]] / Miriam: Sherry, I swear I don't remember you telling me about Steven. / Steven: Yeah, what's up with that, Sher? / [[ Zoomed in to just Sherry and Miriam ]] / Sherry: Maybe I only mentioned you once or twice... when I could get a word in egdewise during Miriam's monologues detailing her escapades. / [[ Zoomed back out, looking from behind the bar now ]] / Miriam: Maybe you just mentioned his name and didn't tell me he was a rock star. / Sherry: Oh, he's not really a rock star, he's just a guy in a— / [[ Sherry puts her fingers to her chin, looking at Steven, while he and Miriam stare at her ]] / [[ Sherry puts her arms around Steven's shoulders ]] / Sherry: Okay, he's really a rock star. / Steven: I don't say you're not a real bartender. / [[ Miriam stands with arms crossed in front of her chest, smiling ]]
Out There - Wednesday, April 23, 2008 [[ Miriam is in the foreground behind the bar with her arms crossed over her chest, Sherry and Steven in front of it ]] / Miriam: Okay, I do remember hearing about you now. I just didn't realize you two were that serious. What happened? / [[ Perspective changes to behind Sherry and Steven ]] / Sherry: Well, we weren't that serious... Steven isn't really the "get serious" type. / [[ Zoom in to Sherry and Steven ]] / Steven: Well, what about you, Ms. Married-to-your-bar? I don't remember you pushing for any commitments. / [[ Pan to Sherry and Miriam ]] / Miriam: Wow, so you guys just used each other for six months. / Sherry: Well, I wouldn't call it - / [[ Back to 1st panel perspective ]] / Miriam: - that must have been so nice. / Steven: It had its moments. / Sherry: They were infrequent.

Out There - Thursday, April 24, 2008 [[ Miriam standing behind the bar, Sherry and Steven sitting in front of it ]] / Steven: Miriam tells me you have a boyfriend now. / Miriam: Sherry, I didn't say— / [[ Zoom in to Sherry ]] / Sherry: He's not a boyfriend. He's just a good friend who I go out with so I can feel like I'm not a pathetic, unattractive loser who can't get a date. / [[ Steven and Miriam stare at Sherry ]] / [[ Sherry turns to look at Steven ]] / [[ Zoom in to Sherry and Steven ]] / Steven: Were you joking? / Sherry: I thought I was, which pretty much proves I AM pathetic.
Out There - Friday, April 25, 2008 [[Miriam and Sherry chat while Sherry is about to go to bed]] / Miriam: So what's this Steven guy like? / Sherry: Well, you met him... He's a bit too full of himself, kinda takes the rock n' roll god image a little too seriously. / Sherry: His band is pretty good, though, and he's a good musician and has a pretty interesting voice. He's kinda arrogant, but he's not a bad guy. / [[Silence]] / Miriam: No, I mean, what's he like? / Sherry: Oh. Not bad. But not nearly as good as he thinks he is.
Out There - Saturday, April 26, 2008 Miriam: Sher, you haven't really dated anyone since Steven, have you? / Sherry: Not really. / / Miriam: Did he like, break your heart or something? / Sherry: No, but he helped me realize what I wanted out of life, and what I don't want. / / Miriam: So what do you— / Sherry: Not him.
Out There - Monday, April 28, 2008 [[ Miriam and Chuck are in bed, talking. ]] / Miriam: If I met a guy who I found attractive, would you want me to tell you about it? / Chuck: I'm sure we both see attractive people every day. / Miriam: That didn't even come CLOSE to answering my question. / Chuck: You don't need to tell me unless you THINK you need to tell me. / [[ Miriam, somewhat peeved, looks at Chuck. ]] / Miriam: Who are these attractive people you see every day? / [[ Chuck rolls his eyes. ]] / Chuck: I dunno. I always close my eyes at first glimpse.
Out There - Tuesday, April 29, 2008 Clayton: Morning, Sherry. / Sherry: Good morning, Clayton. / Sherry: Steven was here last night. / Clayton: Steven the pretentious rock start wannabe? / Sherry: That's the one. / Clayton: I hope you didn't succumb to his buffoonish, posturing advances. / [[Silence]] / Clayton: I said I hope you didn't— / Sherry: It's so sweet of you to be concerned, Clayton.

Out There - Wednesday, April 30, 2008 [[Chuck & Miriam sitting in bed, chatting about Steven, Sherry's musician ex-boyfriend]] / Miriam: I'm all your, hon. My eye no longer roves, it just occasionally bumps into something and stays to look at it for a minute or two. / Chuck: So who was this guy? / Miriam: Some old boyfriend of Sherry's. He's a musician. / Chuck: What is it about musicians? / Miriam: Oh, it had nothing to do with him being a musician. He was just really good-looking. / [[Silent panel]] / Miriam: Um, it had a LITTLE to do with him being a musician. / Chuck: That's a little reassuring.
Out There - Thursday, May 1, 2008 Sherry: You really don't like Steven, do you? / Clayton: No, not particularly. / Clayton: And frankly, it's all I can do to keep my futile attraction to you intact, knowing that you once dated THAT idiot. / Sherry: That's a shame. Well, maybe you can now turn your attention towards some new, NON-futile attraction. / Clayton: Well, any new attraction would probably be futile as well, so I may as well stick with the familiar, well-worn, dog-eared one. / Sherry: I AM NOT FAMILIAR, WELL-WORN, AND DOG-EARED! / Clayton: But you ARE known to date IDIOTS, so I guess I'll just keep on drinkin'.
Out There - Friday, May 2, 2008 Miriam: If you had anything to worry about, I'd tell you. But you don't. / Miriam: It would be very hard to find someone sexier than you, you know. / Chuck: If you say so. / Miriam: And I'm not worried about it either, because it would be damn near impossible for you to find someone sexier than me... / Chuck: That's true. / Chuck: Good thing there are more important qualities than that to look for... / Miriam: Yeah, good thing there- / Miriam: !
Out There - Saturday, May 3, 2008 Sherry: See, I'd never consider going out with you, Clayton, because you don't really respect me. / Clayton: Sure I do. / Clayton: I suppose the Prima Donna rock dork respected you? / Sherry: Not Enough. That's why I'm not going out with him now. / Clayton: I think you're too hung up on this respect jazz. I don't care if anyone respects me. / Sherry: Yeah, I can tell. / Sherry: I guess in a way, that's admirable, that you don't go out of your way seeking respect. / Clayton: Hell, no. And if someone accidentally left some at my doorstep, I wouldn't even bother to pick it up. / Sherry: But I bet you would bother to stumble over it.
Out There - Monday, May 5, 2008 Rod: This is the bar you've been raving about, Ari? Looks pretty divey to me. / Ari: Oh, it's divey all right. / Ari: But we're not here to drink in the middle of the day, because we'd NEVER do that, would we? / Rod: Of course not. / Rod: So why are we here? / Ari: We're here to eat. You're about to taste the best chili on the east coast. / Rod. Chili? Ari, I owe you a meal. You could have gotten a lobster dinner out of me instead you choose to come to— / Rod: OH, I think I understand now. / Ari: No, Rod, I'm telling you it's the chili!

Out There - Tuesday, May 6, 2008 Miriam: Wow, that's a good-looking guy Ari just walked in with. What do you suppose THAT'S all about? / Sherry: Ari? Who's Ari? / Miriam: You know, everyone's favorite long-legged latina l- / Sherry: Oh, you mean ARACELI. / Sherry: What's the big mystery? He's probably her boyfriend. / Miriam: Uh, I don't think that's very likely, Sher. / Sherry: Why not? She's friendly, pretty, smart...why WOULDN'T she have a good-looking boyfriend? Anyway, can you please go take their order? / Miriam: You really need to spend more time in your own bar, Sherry. / Sherry: And you need to spend more time WORKING in my bar. Take their order.
Out There - Wednesday, May 7, 2008 Miriam: Hi Ari. You guys eating, drinking, or both? / Ari: Hi Mir. We'll both have the vegetarian chili and some spring water. / Miriam: Oh, of course. My mistake, I forgot you don't drink. / Ari: It's okay, Mr. Rod here knows I'm a pathetic lush. / Miriam: It's not true at all, Rod. She's a successful and highly respected lush. / Rod: I'll consider that next time she demands a raise. / Miriam: Well, since that's out in the open, what do you really want to drink? / Rod: Scotch and soda. / Ari: Still Just the water for me. / Rod: She sets such a shining example, I'm half considering switching to water myself. / Miriam: I'm not. / Ari: That will be all, Waitress.
Out There - Thursday, May 8, 2008 Rod: So which one do you like, Ari? The smart-ass redhead of the quiet bespectacled brunette? / Ari: I like them BOTH, only as friends, you pervert. / Rod: Look who's talking. / Ari: Anyway, Miriam and Sherry weren't even here when I discovered this place. The other guy, John, was the reason I came back. / Rod: Really? / Rod: Is this a sign you're switching sides again? Should I be getting my hopes up? / Ari: 1) No, and 2) DEFINITELY NO. / Rod: Aww, and I was looking froward to whipping your ass in a sexual harrassment suit. / Ari: At least in the COURTROOM, we'd be able to muster up some PASSION.
Out There - Friday, May 9, 2008 Miriam: I got the scoop. Apparently this guy is her boss or her supervisor or something. / Miriam: It still seems like there's more to it than that, though. Look how flirty she is with him! She's worse than me! / Miriam: I'll have to quiz her about it next time she comes in. Ari and I are pretty good friends now, I think I've earned the right to be nosey. / Sher: Well, if she's such a good friend, I'm sure she'd appreciate your not sticking your nose where it doesn't— / Sher: Wow, he is good-looking. / Miriam: Anything specific you'd like my nose to ask her?
Out There - Saturday, May 10, 2008 [[ Araceli and Rod are at the bar. Miriam is serving them food and drinks. ]] / Miriam: Will there be anything else? / Rod: One more thing. Your phone number. / Araceli: Rod-- / Rod: But Ari, you assured me you weren't interested in this fetching redhead, indicating I would not be out of line in pursuing her myself. / Rod: Far be it for me to jeopardize our friendship. Say the word and I back off. / Miriam: Doesn't make any difference, sport. The fetching redhead's spoken for. / Araceli: See, I COULD have spared you that humiliation, but you would have had to LISTEN to me... / Rod: Psshhaw. I can't BE humiliated. / Rod: When my girlfriend dumped me because she wanted to date women, did I APPEAR to be humiliated? / Araceli: No, sadly, he was actually GIDDY about it.
