Out There - Monday, December 4, 2006 Panel 1: Miriam says "Honey, I'm Ho-ome!" / Panel 2: John says "That took a lot longer than I expected. Did you have to drive far?". Miriam replies, "No, I got lost." / Panel 3: John says, "So what did you do?". Miriam replies, "I called Sherry instead". / Panel 4: Chuck says "What was that all about?" Sherry replies "She's got a good head all right, but it occasionally appears to be places other than on her shoulders."
Out There - Tuesday, December 5, 2006 [[ Chuck and Sherry at the bar, Chuck talking in a cell phone. ]] / Chuck: Oh, hey Mir -- what's up? / Chuck: Tomorrow night? Hey, that's great! / Chuck: Yeah, I can meet you at Sherry's. Sure, I know how to get there. / Chuck: I just go west on 62. Or is it east? / [[ John and Miriam at a campsite. Miriam looks at the cell phone in her hands, surprised and upset.]] / John: What?
Out There - Wednesday, December 6, 2006 [[John and Miriam sitting on the ground at a campsite.]] / Miriam: This is @#$%! GREAT; my best friend and my boyfriend are sitting together at a bar having a laugh at my expense. / John: It's probably not as bad as it sounds. / Miriam: Whatever. They'll feel my wrath if it is. / John. I heard you say we're leaving in the morning now. What changed your mind? / Miriam: I'm a mess thinking about what to do, what not to do, how to avoid screwing everything up, etc. So I decided, &*#! it, I might as well plunge right in and get it over with. / John: That doesn't sound very optimistic. / Miriam: Naah, it'll be great. I just need to stop thinking about it. Which is where YOU come in. / [[Miriam puts her arm around John, holding a whiskey bottle in the other hand.]] / John: Uh oh... / Miriam: If I pass out before finishing this bottle tonight, you are to wake me up and make me finish it.
Out There - Thursday, December 7, 2006 [[ At the bar. ]] / Sherry: Chuck, I'm really glad Miriam found you. I think you'll be really good for her. I hope things work out. / Chuck: Hey, thanks, Sherry. / Chuck: I should probably get going. How much do I owe you? / Sherry: You know what, forget it. It was on me tonight. / Chuck: All right, but just this once. I have a feeling I'll be spending a lot more time here. / Sherry: I sure hope so. G'night, Chuck. / [[Sherry stands behind the bar smiling.]] / [[Sherry stands behind the bar frowning.]] / Sherry: (Uh oh.)
Out There - Friday, December 8, 2006 [[John and Miriam at the campsite, Miriam swigging on a whiskey bottle.]] / John: Miriam, you've done a lot of things since we've met that I don't think have been in your best interests, but getting trashed the night before you meet Chuck may be the topper. / Miriam: Well, you know me; I'm ALWAYS trying to top myself. C'mon, John, this is the last night of our trip. Won't you have ONE little drink with me? / John: I don't need to taste that stuff to know it's revolting. I'll stick to water. / Miriam: You're no fun. But fear not, I'll have fun in spite of you. / John: So why is it that people who drink always want other people to drink with them? / Miriam: Dunno, sport. It's just how it works. / [[ Moonrise vista. ]] / John: Works a lot better for the alcohol industry than it does for anyone else. / Miriam: Oh shush. You're spoiling a perfectly good moon.

Out There - Saturday, December 9, 2006 [[At the bar. Sherry pours herself a shot.]] / [[Clayton walks up to bar.]] / Clayton: Evening, Sherry -- Whoa! Are you DRINKING? / Sherry: Yeah, just one. I kinda need it. / Clayton: See, now you now how it is for me. Except it's that way all the time. / Sherry: Have a drink with me, Clayton? / Clayton: Thought you'd never ask. / Clayton: The moon is full tonight. I sense great drama in the works. / Sherry: Shhhh. Less talking. More drinking.
Out There - Monday, December 11, 2006 [[Miriam lying down in tent.]] / Miriam: (Which appeals to me more -- getting more than three hours of sleep, or being somewhere else while the stupid sun turns my tent into an oven?) / [[Outside. John is shaving as Miriam approaches.]] / John: Good morning. / Miriam: If you say so. Camping is okay at night, but the mornings are brutal. / John: They're a little easier to deal with when you don't drink half a bottle of whiskey the night before. / Miriam: I'm all sweaty and icky. I wanna take a shower. / John: There aren't any at this site. There's always the river, though. It's not a shower, but is was very refreshing. / Miriam: Cool, I'll be meeting my prospective boyfriend smelling like alcohol and fish. That oughta cement the deal from the get-go. / John: You can try using this. It's call "soap". I hear it's very popular with the dating crowd.
Out There - Tuesday, December 12, 2006 [[Campsite. Miriam strides off, towel over arm, behind John, who is shaving.]] / Miriam: Okay, in the absence of proper bathing facilities, the river will have to do. / Miriam: So, be a good boy and no peeking, right? / John: Huh? Oh, of course not, you know me better than that. / [[Miriam walks down the bank to the river.]] / [[John startled by Miriam's shouts off-frame.]] / Miriam: HEY! / Miriam: AVERT YOUR EYES, YOU FREAKS! AVERT YOUR &%#@! EYES! / John: Of course, we may not be the only ones here.
Out There - Wednesday, December 13, 2006 [[Campsite. Miriam walks up wrapped in towel while John dresses.]] / Miriam: Nice to know there are perverts in the nature-loving crowd, too. / John: I'm sure they were as surprised to see you as you were to see them. / Miriam: Well, at least I made SOMEBODY happy today. You ready to hit the road? / John: I'll be ready when you are. / Miriam: Maybe you can help me make a decision on what to wear for the big meeting tonight. You know, first impressions and stuff... / John: Uh, I'm not sure I -- / [[Miriam holds up dress from inside tent.]] / This black dress is as sexy as the day is long, but it's a little wrinkled from the other night. Or I could just go with jeans and a T-shirt, since I look good in jeans and a T-shirt, plus I have clean ones. / John: Um... / [[Miriam standing outside of tent, still wrapped in towel.]] / Miriam: You really don't like helping with this kind of stuff, do you? / John: The towel is nice. Go with that.
Out There - Thursday, December 14, 2006 [[Campsite. Miriam shows off her outfit -- halter, short skirt, fishnet stockings, black boots -- to John.]] / Miriam: So, what do you think? / John: Uh... / Miriam: The goal is to look good, but not look like I'm trying too hard to look good, because, uh... well, you know how it is. / John: Not really. / John: Maybe instead of PRETENDING you're not trying, you can ACTUALLY not try. Then you won't have to worry about whether you're just impressing someone by how you LOOK rather than who you ARE. / [[They both stand arms crossed, looking at one another eye to eye.]] / Miriam: You want me to throw nothing but change-ups when I have a 98-mile-an-hour fastball? / John: Is modesty the exclusive property of junkballers?

Out There - Friday, December 15, 2006 [[ At the car, John sitting in passenger seat, Miriam standing outside. ]] / Miriam: You think I'm totally shallow, don't you? / John: When did I say that? / Miriam: You think I don't know that it's what's inside that's important? / John: I didn't say I thought you didn't know that. / Miriam: Then what's with the speech about appearances? / John: You asked for my opinion your appearance, I gave you my opinion of appearances in general. / [[A moment of silence.]] / Miriam: I'll be glad when I'm not the only one around who's aware of how good I look. / John: The future holds promise for us all.
Out There - Saturday, December 16, 2006 [[In the car; Miriam driving, John in passenger seat.]] / John: You're driving awfully fast. Even faster than usual. We're passing everyone. / Miriam: Kind of surprising I haven't gotten pulled over yet, huh? / John: You almost sound like you WANT to be pulled over. / Miriam: Ehh, I've talked my way out of tickets in the past. / John: What if you get pulled over by a FEMALE cop? / [[Miriam ponders this.]] / John: Now everyone's passing US.
Out There - Monday, December 18, 2006 [[Meanwhile, at James and Chuck's place, Chuck is talking to John, who is leaning back on the couch.]] / Chuck: You wanna go with me to Sherry's later to meet Miriam and John? / James: Man, I thought I made it clear I don't approve of this whole set-up. / Chuck: Are you serious? Just because of what that fool Clayton said? / James: Believe what you want, man. Ya'll don't need my blessings anway. / James: Jus' don't be hangin' around here cryin' like a little girl when you find out I'm right. / Chuck: Fat chance. Under that far-fetched scenario, I'd be out doing something. Which is a completely foreign concept to some losers. / [[Chuck has turned away from James with his arms crossed over his chest and both men are scowling.]] / James: Hey, you wanna get some pizza, man? / [[Chuck whirls his head around, his arms no longer crossed]] / Chuck: Sweet! Let's go!
Out There - Tuesday, December 19, 2006 [[Miriam driving the car, John studying a road map.]] / Miriam: Okay, we're in Portstown. Now what? / John: Stay on the turnpike until we're downtown. / Miriam: I love this place already! Everything is so old and cool-looking! It's like being in a theme park! Or on a movie set! / [[Miriam looks around smiling.]] / [[Miriam looks around not smiling.]] / Miriam: Um... / [[Miriam aghast, John still consulting map.]] / Miriam: Everything went from old and cool-looking to old and crappy-looking in a hurry. / John: We're almost there.
Out There - Wednesday, December 20, 2006 [[Miriam has stopped the car and is looking behind her while John is checking the address.]] / Miriam: Man, what a seedy-looking area. Are you sure this is it? / John: Assuming the address is correct, yes. / [[They get out of the car.]] / Miriam: We should probably put the top up on the car. / John: Probably. / [[Miriam is smoking while walking, fixing her hair and studying herself in her makeup compact mirror. John is walking beside her with his hands in his pockets.]] / [[Miriam is still studying herself in her mirror with her left hand on her hip, still holding the cigarettte. John glances sideways at her.]] / [[Miriam turns to John, her right hand on her hip, her left hand now holding up the cigarette. She is wearing a dark halter top, short skirt, fishnet tights and tall shiny black high-heeled boots.]] / Miriam: Do I look like a hooker?

Out There - Thursday, December 21, 2006 [[Miriam entering bar door excitedly, John behind her.]] / Miriam: SHERRY! / [[Sherry and Clayton at the bar. Sherry turns looking happy.]] / Sherry: MIRIAM! / [[Miriam approaches with arms spread.]] / Miriam: SHERRY! / [[Sherry likewise spreads her arms.]] / Sherry: MIRIAM! / [[Sherry and Miriam hug. Clayton and John shake hands.]] / Miriam: SHERRY! / Clayton: Clayton. / John: John.
Out There - Friday, December 22, 2006 [[Clayton and John at the bar.]] / Clayton: What brings you to Portstown, John? / John: Miriam. I had no particular destination, but she seemed like she needed company, so here I am. Now I need to find a job. I have a little money, but it's running out. / Clayton: Drinks are cheap here, we should be okay for awhile. / [[They regard one another.]] / John: "We"? / Clayton: That was a hint. Subtle, huh?
Out There - Saturday, December 23, 2006 [[At the bar. Sherry and Miriam hold each other by the shoulders.]] / Miriam: Sherry, dahling, it's SO good to see you. / Sherry: Likewise, Miriam, my sweet. / [[They hug, Clayton looking on.]] / Clayton: Cool! Are you guys lesbians? / Miriam: Well, that depends on YOU, sport. Are you the last man on earth? / Clayton: Pretty much. / Miriam and Sherry together: Then we're lesbians. / Clayton: What luck. I think I own the last camera on earth, too.
Out There - Monday, December 25, 2006 [[At the bar.]] / Sherry: Miriam, though it pains me to admit it, this is Craig Clayton, our most loyal customer. / Miriam: Charmed, Mr. Clayton. / Clayton: Likewise. / Clayton: So you're the famous Miriam, huh? Sherry was right about you. You are indeed a feast for the eyes. / Miriam: Why, thank you. / Clayton: So, would you like to buy me a drink? / Miriam: Buy you a drink? Shouldn't that be the other way around? / Clayton: What do you mean? / Miriam: You have quite a way with the ladies, Mr. Clayton. / Clayton: So I've heard. How about that drink?
Out There - Tuesday, December 26, 2006 [[Behind the bar. Miriam holds a bottle.]] / Sherry: So, Miriam... when do you think you'll be able to start work? / Miriam: Oh, I dunno. Pretty soon. I'd like to do a little sight-seeing at some point. Maybe have a day or two to kick back and do nothing. You know, whenever. / [[Miriam takes a swig. Sherry looks displeased.]] / [[Miriam notices Sherry's look.]] / Sherry: Does 7:30 tonight fit into your schedule? / Miriam: Yes, boss.

Out There - Wednesday, December 27, 2006 [[Sherry and Miriam the bar.]] / Miriam: So why isn't Chuck here yet? He's missing out on the fineness that is me. / Sherry: Well, you're here a lot earlier than anybody expected, Miriam. Why don't you give him a call? / [[Miriam picks up a liquor bottle.]] / Miriam: Naaah. That'll sound desperate. Instead, let's all have a drink to my arrival. / [[They notice Clayton beaming at the bottle.]] / Clayton: "All" would have to include ME, since I exist. Also, Sherry usually doesn't drink at work, so I'll have hers. / Sherry: ... and yes, he's here every single night.
Out There - Thursday, December 28, 2006 [[Chuck and James at a table, empty pitcher, glasses, and pizza tray in front of them.]] / James: C'mon, man, let's have another pitcher. You KNOW you want to. / Chuck: Well... / Chuck: Okay, but only one more. I don't want to be lit when I meet Miriam. / James: Dude, she's meeting you at a bar. She probably drinks a little. / Chuck: Having a drink at a bar doesn't make you a drunk. There's levels to everything, you know. / James: Yeah, that's very deep, man. Can we get to work on that pitcher already? / Chuck: Sure, man. What type of work are YOU volunteering for—paying for it, or getting off your ass and getting it? / James: EASY, Mr. Antagonistic—sounds like YOU need a beer more than I do.
Out There - Friday, December 29, 2006 [[Sherry and Miriam behind the bar, John sitting in front.]] / Sherry: Would you care for a drink, John? / Miriam: John doesn't drink. I couldn't get him to drink with me to save my life. / Sherry: A soda then? Water? / John: Water would be fine, thank you. / Sherry: I'm impressed, John. Two weeks in a car with Miriam would drive MOST people to alcoholism, if not suicide. / Miriam: Oh, ha ha. / John: No, Miriam is good company. / Miriam: Sherry is just jealous. She just can't turn the guys' heads like I can. Plus, she's secretly in love with me. / Sherry: That's right, hon. / Sherry: I can never decide what I love most—watching her throw up, or watching her drink more after she throws up. / Miriam: Isn't she just a ray of sunshine? No wonder she has so many dates. / Clayton: Holy cats, they ARE in love.
Out There - Saturday, December 30, 2006 Sherry: OK Mir -- to show you how much I love you, here's your very own key. / Miriam: Yay for me. / Sherry: Are you sure you're going to be okay by yourself tonight? / Miriam: I'm in a room filled with alcohol. How could I not be okay? / Miriam: Why are you so anxious to leave, Sherry? Is everything okay? / Sherry: Oh, yeah, everything's fine. I'm just ... I dunno, tired, I guess. / Sherry: You have my number. Call me if you have any questions. / Miriam: Okay. 'Night hon. / Miriam: That was strange. Why do you think she wanted to leave so bad? / John: You'd know better than I would. / Clayton: (Thinking) I wonder how many free drinks I can squeeze out of this situation?
Out There - Monday, January 1, 2007 [[At the bar. Miriam behind bar opposite John, Clayton farther down the bar.]] / Clayton: Sherry almost never has a drink here, but last night she had several. / [[Miriam and John look at Clayton.]] / [[Miriam and John look at each other.]] / [[They look at Clayton again.]] / Miriam: And...? / [[They look at each other again.]] / Clayton: I think there's probably more to the story, but I have trouble remembering things when I'm sober. And broke. / Miriam: You have to admire a guy who's THAT unabashedly manipulative. / John: You HAVE to?

Out There - Tuesday, January 2, 2007 [[At the bar; Miriam offers Clayton a shot.]] / Miriam: Here you go, Mr. Clayton. Now, what can you tell us? / Clayton: Well, not only was Sherry drinking, she was pouring free shots for me, which, I must say, is an honorable and noble thing. / Miriam: So, why was she drinking? Did she say? / Clayton: Nope. / [[Clayton downs the shot. Miriam and John look on.]] / Miriam: Um, do you have any THEORIES about why she was drinking? / Clayton: Not really. / Miriam: And I bought you a drink WHY? / Clayton: Because you're noble and honorable. Let's have another toast to your nobility and honor!
Out There - Wednesday, January 3, 2007 [[ Chuck and James at a table with empty glasses and empty pitcher. ]] / James: So... another pitcher? / Chuck: Naaah, I gotta get goin', man. No telling when Miriam's going to show up. / James: So she gets there before you do... What's the big deal? / Chuck: I didn't say it was a big deal, I'd just like to be there. / James: Awww, man... don't tell me you're gonna be all WHIPPED now, dropping everything so you can be at the QUEEN'S beck and call... / [[Chuck walks away.]] / Chuck: That's right, man, my plan exactly. Later. / [[James does a double-take.]] / James: Man, that dude should NOT try to be funny.
Out There - Thursday, January 4, 2007 [[At the bar. Miriam behind the bar, John seated in front.]] / Miriam: I'm worried about Sherry, John... How can i enjoy myself here if my best friend is upset about something? / [[Chuck walks up.]] / Chuck: Hi, Miriam. / [[Miriam climbs on bar.]] / [[Miriam sits on bar, grabs Chuck by the shoulders.]] / [[Miriam leans over and kisses him.]] / John: I dunno, you'll figure out a way I guess.
Out There - Friday, January 5, 2007 [[At the bar. Miriam sitting on bar, her hands on Chuck's shoulders.]] / Chuck: Wow, that wasn't the welcome I was expecting. / Miriam: So, you didn't like it? Too bad. / Chuck: I can't believe you're finally here. / Miriam: I know. But the wait was worth it. / [[Clayton walks up to Chuck.]] / Clayton: Hey, this calls for a celebration. Maybe a round of drinks for your friends who have looked forward to this day, uh... / [[Clayton smiles at Chuck. Miriam and Chuck unsmilingly regard Clayton.]] / Clayton: Um... / Chuck: You don't even remember my NAME, do you, "friend"? / Clayton: I don't remember a LOT of things, that doesn't mean I'm not happy for you.
Out There - Saturday, January 6, 2007 John: I'm going to assume you're Chuck. I'm John. / Chuck: Hey, man, it's good to meet you. / [[Miriam looks silently at Chuck. Chuck and John look silently at each other.]] / Miriam: AAAUGHH! Not an awkward silence! There's no need for an awkward silence! / Miriam: You guys have NOTHING to feel awkward about! Your roles are clearly delineated and there's no troublesome overlap! Everything is TOTALLY copacetic! So TALK! / Chuck [[pointing at Miriam, to John]]: Is this normal? / John: I'm afraid so. / Miriam: See, there's LOTS to talk about!
