We love you more than cheese! | {{In keeping with our tradition of giving you something special each Friday, we have something extra-special for you this week -- an advance peek at one of my upcoming projects. / {{01 Project: Syberfang is a post-apocalyptic science fiction story about a bio-engineered, cybernetically enhanced vampire: Jon Chase, who is also the last surviving test subject for the secret project from whence the tale takes its name. / {{I initially conceived this character in 1982 while stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army. He's been through many permutations since I created him, but I've never been quite sure how to tell his story before. / {{I started working with another artist last year, but time constraints sort of stalled the project. Eventually I decided to draw it myself, but then discovered that one of the friends who comes to my house every Wednesday for game night just happens to have a Bachelor of Fine Arts with concentrations in metalsmithing and -- you guessed it -- drawing. / {{Here are a few rough preliminary concept pencil sketches by artist Mike Roach, in which we're starting to establish the look of the main character (above left) and the feel of the comic. Although I had my own ideas of how everything should look, Mike has been invaluable in showing me alternatives that, in some cases, managed to change my mind about things. Eventually (between working on Blue Crash Kit and bookmuncher.com) I'll put up these and others as we go at http://www.syberfang.com. / {{Although there will of course by plenty of action (what do you expect with cyborg vampires, killer androids, chitinous monstrosities, and things humankind was never meant to know?), it will be there to serve the story, and not vice versa. / {{We're shooting for one part manga, one part American superhero comic, and a whole lot of gothic, post-apocalyptic drama. / {{I'm excited to finally be getting ready to bring 01 Project: Syberfang to life. / Which leads me to my purpose in being here... / Bug: Rob and Shan, along with their doctors, are trying to kill me off. That's right -- kill me off. And there's nothing I or my kind can do.
/ We've been able to set up shop inside them so far because their allergies open them up for us. / Bug: That's all changing, though. They're wiping us bugs out by the millions, and have even ordered an air cleaner to keep their allergies at bay, thus preventing further colonizations.
/ There's nothing you can do to save us. All we ask is that you remember us -- the bugs responsible for this filler strip.

It seems that there was a tornado, or at least tornadic type winds, in Lawrence.
