Lesson #200 - Year In Review
STW Lesson #200 - Year in Review (http://survivingtheworld.net/Lesson200.html)
Panel 1
'Twas the night before Christmas,
And all through the class,
Only seven days remained
In the year nearly past.
Children were sleeping,
Most parents in bed,
But Dante remained awake,
Rest not in his head
Pose: Chalk pointing at board, looking in camera, neutral look, standing on the right
Panel 2
"The Year's Almost Gone!"
The young Shepherd was thinking,
"Since one week from now,
We all will be drinking,
Isn't now the best chance
To take time and peer
Through our lives and experiences
From this past year?"
Pose: Chalk pointing at board, looking in camera, neutral look, standing on the right
Panel 3
So he headed into the classroom
In lab coat and cap
And began to analyze
The winters annual trap -
With another year almost gone,
Away from voices that chattered,
Dante stayed far from bed
To figure out if anything mattered.
Pose: Still standing on the right, hand scratching chin. Staring in camera, look neutral(You're good at that :P)
Panel 4
"Hurricanes over Cuba,
Unrest in Tibet,
Clemens went to congress
But showed no regret,
"The length of the election
Made the progress a joke,
The Large Hadron Collider started
And then immediately broke,
Pose: Same as 1 and 2
Panel 5
"A third world food crisis
Grew from shortages of wheat,
Unaffected were more obese,
People who found plenty to eat,
"An earthquake in China,
The Russian-Georgian war,
Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan
Went back for more,
Pose: Same as 1, 2 and 4
Panel 6
"Sure, good things happened, too,
But in the grand scheme of it all,
What with the world economy
In total freefall,
"And all signs pointing to next year
Just continuing the slide,
What's the point of it all
When we're just stuck on this ride?"
Pose: Still on the right, looking in camera with both hand palms opened facing up
Panel 7
All of a sudden,
The classroom door went ka-thunk,
Awaking Dante from
His dour rhyming funk.
Away to the blackboard
He flew like a flash,
Ready to erase all rhymes in a dash
Pose: Standing on the right, looking surprisedly to the right with two board wipers in his hands
Panel 8
When what on his
Wandering eyes should stop,
But a janitor
Armed with a bucket and mop.
It was quite a sight
For the cleaning transgresor;
An emtpy classroom being taught
By a strangely dressed professor,
Pose: Same as before, standing on the right while looking into the camera while pointing to the blackboard with a chalk
Panel 9
The only witness to the
Lessons taught by the lector
Was a single, unplugged,
Overhead projector;
With a camera perched on top
Quite precarious;
The janitor smirked, then chuckled-
The image was hilarious.
Pose: Same as 8
Panel 10
And without a word,
He laughed his way out of the room,
Leaving Dante alone
With a little less gloom.
"He's right," Dante thought,
"So the world has some problems,
And their solutions probably rest
In a number of theorems,
Pose: Looking at camera, arms crossed, on the right
Panel 11
"But we can help uplift the mood
By creating laughs
With bad puns, clever jokes,
And complex graphs,
"And who cares if we get cynical
For our inspiration?
If we go easy on religion,
We'll stave off damnation,
Pose: Eyebrows raised, looking at camera. Pointing at board with chalk.
Panel 12
"So brin on Salinger!
Or Nietzsche! Or Salk! Or
Joe Morgan! Or Warhol!
Or Zwingli! Or Faulkner!
"We'll take on sex tapes!
And the Bible! And engineers' girls!
We'll take on zombies!
And coffee! And campus squirrels!"
Pose: Same as before, staring into the camera but looking less neutral. Opened mouth.
Panel 13
So to the board he flew,
Creativity leaving him transcended,
Making comics to make others laugh,
Screw those who get offended.
Happy holidays and best wishes
In oh-nine to all of you,
From Dante Shepherd
And all us here at STW.
Pose: Looking happy, satisfied. Looking in the camera, arms crossed.
