[[Lev is sitting across a desk from the large back of someone's head, with a bookself off to the left, and kinda behind. The perspective-enlarged head presumably belongs to Professor Binkerton.]] / Binkerton: Young Lev, as you no doubt know, my field of study is highly specialized. The union of Musical Theory and Cryptology is as rare and prestigious as it is sublime. / Lev's Thoughts: He gives me the "Young Lev" speech about once every month. / Binkerton: Well, I want to write a book so revolutionary that it will flood that field. I want to see books wearing life jackets.
[[Now Binkerton's face is visible (also the venetian blinds behind him. Nothing else is, really). The photography effects are not kind.]] / Binkerton: My topic: "Il Requiem Della Duchessa," a musical manuscript from the sixteenth century. A peculiar piece of work.
[[More Binkerton, from slightly further away. A desk corner overflowing with papers has snuck into the shot.]] / Binkerton: Though my quite feeble-minded colleagues deny any evidence of tampering in the manuscript I think it's clear.
[[Now we see Lev's upper half in profile, hand in front of mouth (looking thoughtful rather than nauseated. Also maybe a little smug. Certainly grinning a bit). The background is all bookshelf.]] / Lev: And I'm going to check out the original?
[[More of Binkerton and the blinds. He's laughing.]] / Binkerton: Oh, don't be ridiculous! You're going to make photocopies.

[[Lev is sleeping. You are just watching Lev sleep. There is nothing else.]]
[[Lev is still sleeping. Do you not feel kinda creepy? You should feel kinda like a stalker right now, because this is what stalkers do. What about when Lev wakes up? What are you going to do?]]
[[Crap! Lev's sitting up! Scatter!]]
[[Lev is still sitting there, probably still half-conscious at best.]]
[[It was all a crazy dream? I will be very disappointed if all of that was just a dream. Especially Eightball, he was kinda cool. I think Lev might be disappointed too.]] / Lev: /Fuck./
{{This is the least dialogue I've ever needed on a page. / Our sleep-deprived lead photographer did manage to get a process blog entry up for this comic, which will be expanded upon later in the day.}}

[[Derby is walking, probably on a sidewalk, with an alley to his left between two brick buildings. ]]
Derby's Thoughts: Whatever. The kid's not a big part of this conspriacy. He's just not very sinister.
[[Derby is walking, golf club over his left shoulder (it was probably there in the last panel, too, but invisible against the darker background), with what is probably a brick house visible in the background, with stairs up to a porch and a door, with a porch light on. It's maybe symbolic or something. SECRET: This is actually the house where the actor for the Duke and the lead photographer live.]]
Derby's Thoughts: I think a voice talked to him too. Pointed him to me when I needed it.
[[A vaguely Derby-shaped blur is looking out over what may be a parking lot, with a pale blue house or something over to his right.]]
Derby's Thoughts: Maybe one of /my/ head-voices talked to him. That'd be crazy, though. The kind of crazy that /doesn't/ make sense. Whatever this puzzle is, I'm about to pull its pants down.
[[Derby is actually facing the camera again, golf club at his side, standing in what is almost certainly a parking lot with a low concrete wall bearing an illegible sign (no loitering? parking restrictions? The world may never know) behind him. He's got his head at an angle, like he's thinking, I guess.]] / Derby's Thoughts: I'm going back.
[[A rectangular pillar is visible, with another mystery sign. Not much else is clearly discernible. There is something rounded in the bottom left corner of the panel that could be Derby's head, but if not, he's just not in the panel. Perhaps we are seeing things from his point of view.]] / Derby's Thoughts: Back to where I abandoned the hat and his man. / Back to Eightball at the depot.
