Hunbar caught the reflection of Kenvixx looming behind him on the sword. He glanced over his shoulder. Hunbar turned, still holding the sword.
So now Ferno served as a tactician, trying to stay away from the fighting but still finding a way to be active in the war. It wasn't that he was afraid to lose his life. Far from it, he had killed scores of Xalin in his lifetime. He was just afraid of dying before his son could make it on his own. Alceron was a member of the noncombatants that scoured the fields after the battles to collect the only solid part left behind when a Xalin was killed: the central head spike. The spike would then be later taken to smiths to be forged into arms and armour. And Ferno thought Alceron did just a fine job picking them up.

"Maybe I should have taught him how to fight Xalin instead of hunt animals..." Ferno thought with a frown as he watched his son.
The Xalin's evil god Avrish had created them long ago with his own foul blood. As punishment for this deed, Avrish had been banished to the hells and thus rendered incapable of creating more Xalin on the Material Plane, so long as he was trapped there. With the Xalin's numbers being finite, it would only take time, patience, and cunning to fully destroy the Xalin race and liberate the worled of the cursed beings. Hopefully before the Xalin did the same to the elves.
Many more elves than Xalin had been killed that day. Ferno had to remind himself that while the elves would recover their numbers, the Xalin could not. Ferno's parents had been killed in a Xalin raid when he was very young, when the Elf-Xalin war had began. Ever since then he had devoted his life to the eradication of the Xalin. Few military personnel knew more than he did of Xalin. The Xalin were unnatural creatures and when they died, they did not leave corpses. Rather, they melted into pools of molten silver which could only be described as their blood. Of their adamantine adornments, only the central one on their heads remained.

"Yes, slave," Kenvixx's grating telepathic voice rang in Hunbar's head. Instead of striking down the tyrant, Hunbar had sealed the fate of many lives.

To regain Avrish' favour, Kenvixx had started the war. The Elf-Xalin war. Once he had rid the world of elves, he would have regained his lost favour and honour. This sword would help him achieve that end.

Eight self-proclaimed "heroes". Three of which were dead and one was Kenvixx's prisoner. Only two more dwarves and two more elves remained before his vengeance would be complete.

Hunbar Steelmaster had served his purpose well. He had perfectly crafted Lord Kenvixx's dream weapon: Blood Tempest, or Rmiik Cojlotc in the Xalin tongue.

Hunbar wanted to do it. He wanted to take up the sword he had just made and drive it through the stomach of the evil warlord.
