<br>
By Brad Demarest and David Chien<br \>
<br \>
It was a world of mindless gremlins.<br \>
<br \>
They go through their days doing the same thing... over and over and over and over and over and over and<br \>
<br \>
and over and over and over and over and over and over and<br \>
<br \>
and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and<br \>
<br \>
squeeze... milk... udder... squeeze... milk... hand... udder... squeeze... milk... hand.... udder... squeeze... milk... hand... udder... squeeze... milk... hand<br \>
<br \>
udder... squeeze... milk... hand... udder... squeeze... milk... hand.... udder... squeeze... milk... hand... udder... squeeze... milk... hand... udder... squeeze... milk... hand... udder<br \>
<br \>
milk... hand... udder... squeeze... milk... hand.... udder... squeeze... milk... hand... udder... squeeze... milk... hand... udder... squeeze... milk... hand... udder... squeeze... hand<br \>
<br \>
<br \>
No one questions what they were doing<br \>
<br \>
Until one day, a gremlin stood up, looked around, and utterd the words which would be remembered for ages to come...<br \>
<br \>
Udders are pink.<br \>
<br \>
Milk is white.<br \>
<br \>
I want to go out<br \>
<br \>
and fly a kite.<br \>
<br \>
The end.<br \>
<br \>
... the Birth of Rhyme is an experiment in monotony and comic transitions.<br \>
<br \>
The caption type was done with a Brother Electronic Typewriter AX-10; the title was created with a font that is ever so grungy, ever so available, and ever so out of my recollection. The rhyme is created with the mother of all garamonds, Adobe Garamond.<br \>
<br \>
Some say the Gremlin lifestyle duplicates that of a cubicle worker, except without the udders, the milk, and (maybe) the cow arse.<br \>
<br \>
This story was first published in an abbreviated form in QUIRE zine #4.

<a href="http://thestoryoffillintheblank.com/5k/">The Story of 5K</a><br>
<br>
By David Chien<br \>
<br \>
Paul was tired of being scrawny.<br \>
<br \>
Sometimes a mild breeze can come along and push him over...<br \>
<br \>
So when he saw an ad for the 5K pill, he thought...<br \>
"As seen on TV. Big Pecs! Tight Ass!"<br \>
<br \>
"I want BIG pecs!"<br \>
<br \>
"I want a tight ass!"<br \>
<br \>
So he ordered the pill.<br \>
<br \>
Only to find out later...<br \>
<br \>
...that it was a suppository.<br \>
<br \>
... 5K was my attempt at creating a comic strip under the crunching rules of the 5k Competition.<br \>
<br \>
Pain-staking effort was put into optimizing images, tweaking layers, and fiddling with many many pixels. But alas, I have failed. This strip weighs in at just under 10k -- a size that is darn-tootin' good for an illustration site but laughable for the 5k competition.<br \>
<br \>
The illustrations were done with many many mouse clicks in Photoshop -- an experience that I've already repressed.<br \>
<br \>
"All pixels, no sketching, make David something something."

Fidget<br \>
Would you like to buy a widget?<br \>

Farse<br \>
... I think his arse is kinda chubby...<br \>

Fuck<br \>

Everything was done with my trusty Sharpie fine tip marker, Pilot precise fine tip pen, and a lot of tinkering (for the exact placement of word bubbles).<br \>

The Story of Censorship

<a href="http://thestoryoffillintheblank.com/censorship/">The Story of Censorship</a><br>
<br>
By David Chien<br \>
<br \>
The Gremlin could only draw rectangles.<br \>
<br \>
His artist friends made fun of him because rectangles were so passe.<br \>
<br \>
Art critics ripped his rectangles for being too infantile<br \>
<br \>
But the gremlin stuck with his rectangles...<br \>
<br \>
... and soon the public loved them.<br \>
<br \>
They shouted works of encouragement where ever the gremlin went...<br \>
<br \>
But mostly they shouted, "Thank God!"<br \>
<br \>
... Censorship evolved from an original concept of having a character create his own borders and restrictions.*<br \>
<br \>
Shading is done with a 2B graphite pencil, a Non-Photo Blue pencil (which really doesn't show up at all), and a Terra Cotta pencil I found in a small nook many years ago in my "youthful exuberance" days. Captions done with a Sharpie Ultra Fine marker.<br \>
<br \>
* which is kind of depressing in retrospect.

<br>
By Kijana Knight and David Chien<br \>
<br \>
Terry lived in a world filled with noise.<br \>
<br \>
Some sounds mades him laugh...<br \>
<br \>
while others made him angry.<br \>
<br \>
The evil sounds made him so angry that...<br \>
<br \>
he had to stop it.<br \>
<br \>
Now he misses the happy sounds.<br \>
<br \>
... the End of Sound is an experimentation with collage format -- staying as low-tech as possible.<br \>
<br \>
The shading is done by repeatedly photocopying pencil shading. Drawings done with Sharpie marker. Caption type done with a Brother Electronic Typewriter AX-10.<br \>
<br \>
Published in QUIRE Vol. 1, Issue 2 on February 2, 2001.<br \>
<br \>
... and it's not depressing. It's tragically ironic.
